The Fashion awards 2023: round-up

Last night (Mon 4th Dec 2023), the Royal Albert Hall saw some of fashion’s greatest icons walk down the red carpet and enter this year's Fashion Awards, The British Fashion Council's main fundraising event. This time, the awards show was presented by Pandora, with some official partners being Don Julio, Royal Salute, and Getty Images. Every year the Fashion Awards brings together a global community of fashion’s best creatives, designers, lovers, and promoters, celebrating excellence and innovation. On the carpet we saw Pamela Anderson inspiring us all to embrace natural beauty, her focus on fashion and choice to go without makeup was such an empowering move. In a Vogue interview, when speaking about Paris Fashion Week, she said how she didn't want to "compete with the clothes". She said how she felt freedom and relief.

“ The event serves as the main fundraiser for the BFC Foundation, which supports the future growth and success of the British fashion industry through its focus on education, grant-giving, and business mentoring.” – The Fashion Awards

As expected, throughout the night, many awards were given out. We saw Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe win “Designer Of The Year”. Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo took the title of “British Womenswear Designer of the Year”, other nominees consisted of Simone Rocha for Simone Rocha and Erdem Moralıoğlu for Erdem (alongside other iconic designers). The BFC Foundation Award winner was Connor Ives, in celebration of 30 years of BFC NEWGEN; an initiative supporting emerging fashion talents. The night saw many more winners, such as Campbell Addy who won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.

Though I could go on to list all the amazing designers, creatives, and models that won awards last night, I need to leave some space to show you some of my favourite looks from the evening. I loved Maya Jama in Dolce & Gabbana (see images attached). Though I’ve only selected a handful, trust me I could have put a load more on here!

One of my favourite things from last night, was Rita Ora wearing Primark. Iconic. As a very normal girl with at least half of my wardrobe being Primark, I could finally look through Vogue and say, “Wow, I have some of their clothes!”. I felt like a celebrity for a whole 10 seconds. Her extremely successful collab with the high street shop has provided us with affordable luxury and seems to have brought a whole new world onto the carpet. The question is, who off of the Highstreet might we see next year?

Some of my favourite looks: photo and detail credit to Vogue and those referenced, though I wish I had been there, sadly I was not!
