What trends are we going to embody for the new season?

Before we spring forward, and the days become longer, I thought it would be a good idea to look back on last Septembers fashion weeks to see what trends to expect in the new season.

I’ve done the research for you, all you need to do in order to be THAT girl (or guy) this spring is read down below. From reds to blues and florals to pinstripes, Spring is set to be a season full of confident fashion and style experimenting.

The other week I posted a piece on “Blue For Spring 2024”, so I won’t mention it in this post too. But enjoy some inspo pics of the light blue trend soon to hit socials.

1.  Micro

We’re still channelling the noughties and showing some extra skin in micro outfits, our inner Christina Aguilera is still going strong.  The micro-element of the dresses and skirts allows length to be emphasised through the legs and also adds edge and confidence to an outfit. Aknvas showed us how the this can be classy and empowering with this mesh, ruffle detail micro dress.

Micro skirts are definitely a popular statement piece right now. Many high street brands such as Zara and Oh Polly are creating pleated micro skirts to add a “chic office-wear” effect. Asquin showed a pleated micro skirt in their SS24 show that is absolute perfection.

The trend goes hand-in-hand with the visible thong craze that’s made its way into the fashion world more recently. There’s a whole sense of fun and carelessness that surrounds this trend. Where fashion becomes more fun and less functional. We’re channelling the “Swinging Sixties”, a time when micro skirts were popular, and we’re revelling in the freedom of modern attitudes towards fashion.

2.  1990s

If the noughties weren’t a big enough throwback for you, we’re also revisiting the 90’s. Think spaghetti straps, transparent tops, and sequins. There’s also been a surge in waistcoat style suit sets (I Phillip Lim). It’s a chance to show we really are in our “Girl Boss Era” as silhouettes with prominent shoulders are making their way down the catwalk.

 For a more casual look go for a button-down shirt or a plain vest with wide-leg jeans. Pair with Adidas Sambas. I know they’re everywhere, but they are an everyday staple for sure.

Rachel Green is definitely one of todays biggest fashion icons and design house Jaquemus have made channelling her style one step easier. The thin straps and tight bodice of their dress screams 90s supermodel.

3.  Babydoll

No doubt will there be mixed opinions on this one, but the “baby doll” aesthetic is definitely coming in hot. One example? Bows. If I’m being honest, I love them.

This isn’t for everyone, but if it is, take a look at some of the SS24 Fashion Week takes on the trend.

The style also sees frilled hems, defined collars, and lace trims. It’s basically anything and everything feminine. JW Anderson tied in the crochet craze with an A-line dress to create the perfect doll look.

4.  Drape

It feels as though the drape has been on the horizon for a while now. We have seen the design integrated into simpler garments, for example, being added at the waist as a belt or even onto one shoulder. But the trend has finally come into its own, and instead of being a side piece, she’s now the main event.

This year especially feels like one for experimenting with silhouettes. Drapes add elegance and class whilst keeping the outfit a fun and creative shape.

Though suitable for all year round, some of the best drape effects are created with sheer, lightweight fabric making it perfect for Spring.

5. White dresses / two pieces

I think this is going to be one of the best trends yet. White is crisp, clean, elegant and really brings out a tan. All those summer dresses and brunch on the beach two pieces are about to become available in a new colour way. Valentino has released some of my favourite pieces, I’ll add the photos down below and let them speak for themselves…

White is also an easy colour to accesorize, whether you want to keep it neutral or add a pop of “Wine Red” or “Bottega green”.

It’s bridal. It’s elegant. It’s a necessity.
